Things I Love: Vintage Suitcases November 9, 2011
I don’t even know where this obsession of mine started…probably through blogging. But I have become all about the hunt for genuine vintage suitcases.
I couldn’t even tell you why I love them. It might be the mystery of who owned them, where they traveled to, what they held…
Or it might be that their smell reminds me so often of my great grandmother’s house.
It could be that really I’m just amazed at how women back in the day managed to fit all of their travel belongings into one small piece of luggage.
Or it could be that they just remind me of a simpler time. Before the internet, crazy television shows, smart phones, iPods, computers…..not that I don’t enjoy these things, but I feel life gets so complicated at times due to technology. But no, I will never give up my iPhone. 🙂
I was surprised at how quickly I was able to find my own set of vintage suitcases at estate sales and flea markets, and the incredibly cheap price I bought them for – blue = $3, green = $2, tweed = $15. Steal, right? They are sitting pretty as my side table in our master bedroom.
I placed a vintage cutting board on top to allow a hard surface for my other pretties to sit on.
And…they are GREAT for storage! (Shocking, I know) My new Stella and Dot jewels sit happily in the top suitcase.
I LOVE IT! I am now going to be on the lookout for vintage suitcases. You found the perfect stackable sizes too. I LOOOOOVE estate sales and you’ve taught me a few things to keep an eye open for.
Glad I could help! It’s really an addiction 🙂
Love them too:) I have 3 myself, and am planning on putting them in our guest room! THanks for the idea of the cutting board on top- that will work perfectly! I’ll post a pic of ours once our room is done! 🙂 Yours look awesome!
I would love to see how yours turn out! 🙂
YES…I love vintage suitcases for all the same reasons as you do!!!!
Hi Ginny! Nice to meet someone who shares in my joy 😀
