DIY Pallet Frame Board

March 21, 2012

I’m almost COMPLETE in the process of our master bedroom makeover. I know what you’re thinking….What? Lauren actually COMPLETING a room makeover? Yes, it’s true!

I had been staring at the empty wall space above our bed for sometime now, debating what should be the focal point of the room. A shutter was out of the picture, as was an oar, because I already used those items in another part of the room. I debated picture frames….a shelf with pretties on it….no focal point at all. Decisions, decisions. I know, first world problems.

A while ago my husband told me he has the hook up for unlimited wooden pallets. UNLIMITED. Do you know what the word does to a DIY girl? Naturally my head was spinning with ideas, but none I could act upon. The two we took home have been sitting outside in our “garden” (I know, white trash) for two years now. Yes, years. But those two wonderfully long years have brought something amazing to those pallets….AGE. They have aged and weathered so beautifully that it makes me want to throw a bunch more pallets outside for the weather elements to “ruin.” Except, I think my neighbors might call hoarders on us if I do that….or at the very least, our condo association.

The hubs and I had a free day this past weekend and that sweet man of mine asked me the question I think every woman is dying to hear from her significant other…”What can I do for you today?” AH! So I asked him to whip up a quick project for me using the pallets. πŸ™‚

(Do-do-do-do-doooo….cutting the pretty wood…)

And this is what we came up with!

I dry brushed some white on the pieces of wood that were not as weathered as the others, and also to add a little something to the board. I then attached two shabby frames that have been sitting on the floor of my bedroom for entirely too long now. Insert wedding pictures and, Voila! A great focal point for above our bed.

Easy enough, right?

What’s above your bed? Do you have pictures, a shelf, or maybe nothing? I’d love to hear some more ideas!

Stay tuned! We have some big changes coming to the blog soon!

This is a very clever idea! I have hang a sort of curtains behind the bed as I wanted to cover an ugly wall and at the end it came out rather impressive! Love the new look now!

Thanks Olga! I think curtains sound like a great idea! It would be cool if they were draped down from the ceiling…fancy-shmancy! πŸ™‚

LOVE it!! Like really LOVE it. I have a homemade sunburst mirror above our bed made out of wooden skewers and an old round mirror. Sounds chinzy but actually came out looking just like the $100 ones at the store!

Umm Hello? Unlimited supply of Pallets?? Where do I sign up?! Lol. I love what you did for above your bed. I’m still trying to figure out our master bedroom. We are in the process of picking out a new bed and frame so the possibilities are pretty much endless, and the choices are all over the place. I can’t decide if I want to put a big piece of artwork above our bed, or if I want to have a canopy with soft romantic curtains curtains.
