Junking Adventures

Junking Adventures: Stratford Antique Center and I’m Slightly Irrational.

March 6, 2012

This weekend has been fabulous. First, one of my closest friends gave birth to her second baby girl. I am a very proud Auntie Woah Woah for a second time (this new little one’s big sister has coined this name for me, aka Auntie Lo Lo. Lauren is hard for any child under 3 to correctly say!)

The next day, my favorite junk-loving friend and I hit up one of our favorite antique stores, called the Stratford Antique Center, in Stratford, CT. We brought her two young boys with us, and I’m sure the store owners thought we were crazy. But they were SO well-behaved!!! I think we proved it’s totally okay to bring your children to an antique store. Which is a good thing, because when the time comes I’m sure I’m going to be doing that a LOT. πŸ™‚

I snapped some pictures with my iPhone so you can see the amazingness that is this store. It’s a massive warehouse where different vendors stock and restock their booths for you to shop. It may just be my favorite place in the world.

I loved this chair. Friends of ours purchased two for their backyard!

I think this was a scale of some sort? I can’t remember off-hand, but I loved it! Way over my budget, however.

A letterpress cabinet….beautifully yummy.

Do you know how expensive this old peanuts tin was? Like, over $50. For a peanuts tin. Yeah.

But I loved the cabinet that held it.

Love this hoosier cabinet. Im hoping to find one in my price range someday.

And a vintage Louis Vuitton. I love you. I wish you weren’t $400 so you could live with me. But sadly, we were not meant to be.

I purchased a few items for our home that I’ll show you a little bit later on, but I had to share this one thing…this really amazing rusty turquoise toy Jeep. A friend of mine recently found out she is going to be giving birth to a baby boy and they’ve chosen vintage trucks as their room theme! I saw this and immediately thought of her…

…and had to get it. I’ve been trying to convince myself it’s totally okay to keep it. Not that I’m even pregnant or anything…but just in case God decides to bless me again with a baby boy in the future? Right? No? I know….completely irrational. πŸ™‚

What would you do? Give it, or keep it? Am I horrible? It will be a tough one to part with!

I think that your friend would LOVE the truck and it’s a REAL vintage piece that has a history….one they can “make up” for their son. It would be the BEST baby shower gift they receive!!!

I must go to this store! Looks like I can find some amazing things there! I may even go tomorrow! I’m indecisive about the little truck’s home…. If you love it that much, keep it and find your friend another one that you don’t personally love as much as this guy!

You could give to friend and take an awesome picture of it and frame it for potential baby’s room :))

I think it would be the best gift! However, if you have added sentiment to it, keep it. If you fall out of love with it, it could always be a 1st birthday present. πŸ˜‰
I absolutely loved the letterpress cabinet!! It would totally make a fab jewelry “box” piece. πŸ™‚

Great idea for the letterpress cabinet! I currently have a letterpress tray housing my earrings πŸ™‚ I have a feeling I will be giving the truck to her…gives me a reason to keep on the hunt for another one!

My policy for anything vintage that I love is to definitely keep it because if you give it up and totally regret it, you might never be able to replace it ; )

That store looks amazing! Like something off American Pickers. Glad you had a good weekend.
Nikki is a hard name for some kids too. My brother called me sissy for years.

Saw your post over at The SITS Girls forum, I too have a passion for DIY, crafts, and junking adventures! I tend to prefer thrift stores over antique stores just because the prices are so much more budget-friendly, but antique stores have so much cooler “stuff” hehe If you’re still looking for a blogging buddy go ahead and check out my blog and let me know!
