How to Have White Couches Without Going Crazy

August 10, 2015

How to Have White Couches Without Going Crazy

The number one question I’m asked here on the blog is how I live in a home with white couches, a toddler, and a 130lb Rottweiler who sheds a small wig daily. Well….I never said I was totally sane. 😉 (Kidding) When we purchased our Ikea Ektorp couch, I remember multiple people questioning my motives and received multiple comments that I would regret our purchase. I’m happy to say we’ve had it for a while now and I can promise you I don’t regret its purchase one bit!

We paid less than $400 for our Ikea Ektorp couch (we have yet to purchase the love seat, which we’ll do once we’re in our new home). It looks almost identical to its Pottery Barn counterpart, but only a small fraction of the price. Our rationale for the cheap couch was our toddler. It made no sense to spend over $1000 on a nice couch when we knew our child and future children would be sitting/jumping/playing all over it. We figured we would rather invest in a nicer couch later on after our kids were out of the messy stages.

I also loved that the slipcovers are interchangeable, and that I could buy a new slipcover if I got sick of the color. This also makes the couch REALLY easy to clean. Which is why I didn’t hesitate to purchase the white slipcover!

I should mention I do have limits for what is to happen on the couch. For instance, no one is eating any foods that can possibly ruin the material. I wouldn’t allow this on any furniture, period, regardless of the color of the couch. We also don’t allow coloring of any kind near the furniture. I believe Landon needs some boundaries and can have a designated area for eating and also for playing with things like crayons, play-doh, etc. But this doesn’t mean the occasional crayon doesn’t escape from its box and draws some scribbles where it shouldn’t! And when you have a large dog with black hair, it’s very easy for that hair and any dirt he drags in to get all over those certain spots on the couch he likes to lean up against. I’m not naive and totally expected this!

Sounds like a nightmare, right? But it’s not! And this is where I share my secret on how to have white couches without going crazy.

My #1 tip for keeping my slipcovers clean and stain free….OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover!

OxiClean2

OxiClean™ is the premier solution for removing all types of stains, and has been my saving my sanity since we purchased our white couch! I simply throw a spoonful of OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover! into the wash with my slipcovers and it eliminates any and all stains in one cycle. My couches look brand new again!

The slipcovers wash and dry so well that my couch can be completely cleaned in only a few short hours. Knowing OxiClean™ ‘s stain fighting power makes me less nervous about spills and stains that could possibly occur. Which means I get to have my nice white couch while having a messy dog and toddler all at the same time 🙂 (without going crazy!! Mom win!)

 OxiClean3

Our furniture isn’t the only thing getting the OxiClean™ treatment. We use it on all of our laundry, and also use OxiClean’s White Revive Laundry Stain Remover Powder on Landon’s white onesies. I love having white onesies on hand at all times, but they get stained so easily with a messy toddler. One scoop ofOxiClean™ added to the wash does the trick! A total necessity for all moms!

Have I convinced you to try white slipcover couches yet? With some OxiClean™  on hand, there’s nothing to fear 😉
