Home // Tropical Backyard Hammock Retreat May 19, 2016
Thank you to World Market for sponsoring today’s post!
I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents house and relaxing on their hammock as a little girl. When we purchased this home, I swore to myself that I would get a hammock for our yard so I could do the same with the kids! There’s something about a hammock that transports you to a tropical place, am I right? Which is why I wanted to create a little tropical-inspired hammock retreat right in my own backyard.
With the help of World Market’s Outdoor Collection, my hammock dreams recently became a reality! We are hosting a tropical themed Memorial Day party in a few weeks (some family members of mine just vacationed on a tropical island), so it felt fitting to set up our hammock as a place for them to lounge!
I love the bright colors of World Market’s Havana collection because they transport me to a tropical place. Adding the pineapple and flamingo outdoor pillows really brought it all together. Having this wooden tea cart nearby makes it easy to stay relaxed with your feet up because all of your drinks and snacks are right there 😉
I strung some colorful lights in the background for some mood lighting when the sun goes down, and added an outdoor blanket for extra warmth. And speaking of mood lighting, I’m a huge fan of candles and outdoor lanterns and feel you can never have too many, which is why I added a variety along the base of the hammock and on the tea cart. Most of them are citronella, so they’re functional as well.
The watermelon ice bucket and fun stemless glasses add a fun touch. Plus, how cute are those flamingo straws!! But the pineapple drink dispenser is icing on the cake for me. I love anything pineapple, and I thought that was a cute twist on beverage dispenser!
This space is hanging out on our deck for now, but we plan on moving it over into our yard near our newly built fire pit. Eventually I plan to have my husband build a sweet little pergola for the hammock to hang from. But for now, our family will enjoy it here!
Here are some outdoor decor tips from one of my favorite designers, Sabrina Soto! I love her idea of using a timer for the outdoor string lights…I might have to do that for our hammock area!

As I was scrolling through, I knew immediately this was World Market. I love their stuff. I used to go in San Diego all the time. Unfortunately, out here in this part of the south, we don’t have anymore. I sure miss the furniture, greeting cards, wrapping paper, wine…LOL. Beautiful backyard setting. I’ll definitely be checking out the sweepstakes, too.

I love hammocks and I am hoping to get one for our backyard this summer. In the South the nights are always beautiful and I would love to lay out under the stars. I love the tropical items that you found at my favorite is the Pineapple Beverage Dispenser.
Lauren McBride says
I love that, too!

Love your tropical backyard! We have a standing hammock but don’t have it out permanently but after seeing yours I just want to lay out there! Love the bright cheery pillows too! I think you’ll be out there quite a lot this summer!

Thank you!

This is an amazing place to relax. We don’t have a hammock but you just gave me a brilliant idea. I’m happy to know that I don’t need two trees where to tie my hammock. I’ll give this a try.

Enjoy!!!!

If I had a space like this, I don’t know that I’d ever go inside. Okay, so maybe when it was raining. I love the pineapple dispenser and the hydrangea plant. Those are the two things that caught my eye first (after the hammock). Hydrangeas are one of my favorite plants!

I love the idea of having a hammock in our backyard. We have a deck, which would be the idea spot for it. I’m afraid, though, that I’d never get out of it! LOL Hubby would want a turn but I’d say no.

This hammock looks so comfortable and the environment that you have created is fantastic! I don’t know who would not love this at their home.

Everything about this post screams “summer” and it gets me so excited for the months ahead of us! I absolutely love everything in these photos, and it inspires me to decorate the backyard at my new home!

Omg. Can your patio be MY patio? It looks amazing!!!! I would absolutely love to have a hammock like this too. Plus the way you decorated it feels like there’s no need for a grand tropical vacation — because you can have it right at home for starters!
Lauren McBride says
thank you so much!
