How to Layer Outerwear for Fall and Winter November 13, 2019
Thank you to Backcountry and Shopstyle for sponsoring this post! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
You know how much I appreciate investing in quality, timeless pieces for your everyday wardrobe. But what about outerwear? It’s equally as important! I have learned over the years that investing in quality, well made outerwear makes ALL the difference for the fall and winter season. I hate being cold, so this mama needs some warm items! I’m sharing How to Layer Outerwear for Fall and Winter, and a few of my favorite pieces from Backcountry – one of my favorite places to shop for these items!
1 // Fleece Pullover
I love a good fleece, whether I’m wearing it alone or layering it under a vest or heavier jacket. Their layering ability makes them very versatile depending on the time of year. I have several from The North Face and Patagonia, which I wore for skiing last year, but I recently purchased The North Face Campshire 2.0 Hooded Pullover Fleece Jacket and I LOVE it. I purposely sized up one size to a small and I love the slightly oversized cozy fit. Otherwise, it fits true to size! I love how it looks worn on it’s own, but also layered with the Patagonia vest I recently added to my outerwear closet, too.
2 // Puffer Vest
Puffer vests are one of my favorite outerwear layers because they’re so easy to throw on over any outfit for some warmth! I love these when I’m wearing a fleece or a chunky sweater and don’t want a heavy jacket. I like that this Patagonia Bivy Hooded Down Vest is hooded and SO warm. I was impressed with just how warm this kept me over a fleece. I’ll be getting a lot of use out of this this fall and winter season!
3 // Hooded Insulated Jacket
Temps can get pretty cold here during the winter months, so having a properly insulated jacket is key. I’m partial to The North Face and have two of their jackets for the season – a long and short one. The shorter jackets, like this The North Face Gotham II Hooded Down Jacket, is great for every day when the temps aren’t TOO cold. This color is British Khaki – I thought it was so different for an insulated jacket! I would recommend sizing up. I also have The North Face Gotham II Hooded Down Parka, which I absolutely love for when the temps drop. I run cold all the time, so I like having my bottom covered for the most warmth possible. Bonus: a pullover fleece fits comfortable under these for even more warmth!
Backcountry has other items like winter boots and accessories too! I’m wearing the Sorel Explorer Joan Boots in Camel Brown which I LOVE as transition boots from fall to winter. They have a sneaker fit but with traction for slippery conditions. They’re fleece lined, and waterproof too! I also love this Pistil Diva Pom Beanie that’s available in a few colors. It’s super warm, and I love how it fits on my head.
I purchase a lot of my outerwear items, especially for winter activities, on Backcountry because of their shipping and return policy!
