How to Get Your Husband to Build You a Factory Cart Coffee Table, Part 1.

I found this a while ago while browsing Ana White’s amazing website…

It reminded me of this little beauty from Restoration Hardware.

Instead of waiting for forever to miraculously find one of these during a junking adventure or paying the thousand dollar price tag for the RH one…I convinced my husband it was absolutely necessary to build one ourselves using the plans from Ana White.

Pat: “But…it’s going to be really low.”
Me: “Yeah, that’s the point.”
Pat: “But…what will I put the laptop on? I don’t want to hunch over.”
Me: “Um..how about your lap?”

So after a trip to Home Depot, spending 30 minutes cutting wood because the wood cut guy kept talking to me about nursing things, and my husband reinforcing multiple times that I was doing all the building because it was my idea, we finally had everything we need. And a good free three hours before we had to be somewhere. So naturally, I wanted to start building. And then the conversation went like this:

Pat: “Okay, where are the directions?”
Me: “I thought I was doing it?”
Pat: “No, I am.”
Me: “Well, then what am I going to do?”
Pat: “You can get away from me…..I mean that in a loving way.”

WELL THEN. Mr. I-don’t-want-to-be-involved-in-your-crazy-coffee-table-scheme changed his tune now didn’t he? He was all “I don’t want to help” and then decided it was his project and he didn’t want me helping! So, I sat and took pictures. And directed him in what to do. 🙂 Here are some of the build process.
