Postpartum Beauty Tips

I’m a little over two weeks postpartum and totally feeling the stress that is having two children. It’s been quite the adjustment, but also not as big of an adjustment as having our first baby. Maybe because I know what to expect and prepare for this go around. That being said, I’m still completely exhausted and not feeling 100% like myself, which I know will take a bit of time. I am, however, making sure I at least try to carve out some “me” time every day and rejuvenating my postpartum body (even if it means taking 2 minutes to brush my teeth!). I’m convinced that the only way I can be the best version of me as a mom is to make sure I’m taking care of myself. Most mamas can agree with me on that, right?

Nourishing my body from the inside out has always helped me feel healthy, confident, and strong…even when I’m sleep deprived. Here are my top postpartum beauty tips for all the mamas out there who may need a little reminder on how to take care of themselves!

Don’t neglect your skin. I’ll be the first to admit I’ve totally fallen asleep while nursing, makeup on and all, but it’s so important to continue washing your face and applying your skin care products before bed. Hormones are fluctuating post-baby, which will have an effect on your skin. Leaving make up on (if you’ve even managed to put it on!) without allowing your skin the chance to breath will only clog pores.

Stay hydrated and eat a well balanced diet. Yes, this is a beauty tip! Eating a well balanced diet filled with vitamins and nutrients is so important in the postpartum days, especially if you’re nursing/pumping. In order to maintain an adequate milk supply, your body needs nourishment and hydration (although unfortunately for some mamas, it isn’t always the case). Drinking the recommended amount of water a day (WATER, not juice/soda/coffee/tea) will not only help your body, but will keep you looking fresh faced too! It’s so important we remember to take care of ourselves which often gets pushed aside as moms. But I can promise eating a healthy, balanced diet and staying hydrated will keep you feeling your best in your postpartum days.

Take (and make!) the time to shower. Listen, it may not be first thing in the morning or at the most ideal time of day, but I will find a way to get a shower in daily NO MATTER WHAT. The past two weeks, I’ve showered at midnight because I passed out at 8pm from sheer exhaustion from wrangling a newborn and a toddler. Nothing, I repeat..NOTHING, makes me feel as good as a nice hot shower. Pamper your skin with yummy smelling body washes and scrubs, and make your showers even more enjoyable by giving yourself a spa-like treatment. Diffuse some essential oils if that helps (I love diffusing lavender, especially before bed!) And when you’re finished, be sure to rub on some lotion to keep that skin supple and smooth!

Love on your hair. Regardless of how you style it (beachy waves or a top knot on those days where hair styling isn’t happening!), it’s important to remember that your hair needs care too! Especially if you’re like me and end up with that postpartum hair fall-out (yeah, not fun!). I lost hair from 3 months to 9 months postpartum…it was brutal. I’m fully expecting it to happen again, so anything I can do to love on my hair a bit is better than nothing. For me, this means using a good shampoo and conditioner and nixing the hot tools.
