Our week in Coral Bay, St. John

  1. Hi! We’ve always wanted to visit St, John, and you’ve inspired us to finally book the trip! Thank you for being so thorough with your descriptions 🙂 We will be there next February and staying on the Coral Bay side. I hope that’s the right decision for our family (11yo and 5yo boys)! Do you have a jeep rental place you’d recommend? Also, do you bring your own snorkel gear?
Again, thanks for all of the info!

    1. Hi! We do bring our own snorkel gear, but you can rent at Beach Bum right near the ferry dock in Cruz Bay! We are renting from Mr. Piper’s Jeeps next trip and have heard good things!

Hi Lauren! Thanks for the post! Because of you, my sister and I and our husbands booked a trip in June (without the kids!)! We are so looking forward to this getaway.

We chose to stay in Coral bay for a more relaxing/peaceful stay – and already booked our jeep, salt deck tour and night kayaking (per your last post!) You have been SO helpful in sharing all your tips & recs and I can’t wait to appreciate and love this island as much as you and your family. Thanks again! 🙂

  3. Hi Lauren,
Thank you for all the great info! It’s going to be so helpful as we prepare for our trip in December! 🙂 As far as groceries, do you bring much from home or rely solely on shopping on the island? What groceries would you recommend to bring? We are a family of 9 and would like to make most meals at home but not sure if it’s worth the hassle or not.

    1. Hi! I did bring some things from home, mainly because I’m gluten free and I’ve found that GF groceries are $$$$ on the island. I know some people will legit fly down coolers of meat! But I just bring a few things for myself that I know I can’t get there. It really is just up to you!

  4. Hi! Loving these blogs 😁What time of the year do you feel is best? When is the on and off season? I know you’ve mention about things being closed during hurricane season? Thanks!!

    1. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a bad time other than hurricane season, mainly because some places close down for a bit! 🙂

Hi! Love all your travel blogs but wanted to let you know you inspired our trip to St John with our kids. We got back Monday and it’s safe to say it was hands down our favorite vacation!! St John is magical! We are already looking into a return trip as well but the flights are getting SO expensive I fear we won’t ever be able to make it back! Either way, amazing recommendation!!

    1. I’m so glad you loved it!!!! I will say, we have better luck with inexpensive flights mid-week! 🙂

      1. Love all the info!! Would you be willing to share estimated total costs? Seems like a pricey trip to make multiple times a year!

        1. It’s going to depend on the size of the house you’re in, how many people you’re traveling with, and what days you’re traveling! We go mid-week so the flights are super inexpensive. But we also had 7 people total. You’re best bet is to research for yourself!

  7. Hey Lauren!
We are headed to SJVI in April with our kids (12+8)! Booked through the previous travel people you used, they seem great and also booked Salty Daze! These types of laid back vacations our totally our speed can’t wait! Love all your insights and tips! Finding a rental car was no joke though!
    We are counting the days!!

Hi Lauren. So glad you had another wonderful trip. It’s such a special place. My husband and I purchased a Villa 3 years ago. I’m happy to share our experience and what we learned through the process. We decided on the Cruz Bay side in Point Rendezvous. We will also be down in April! Good luck with your search!

Hello! I am sitting at my villa in Fish Bay!! Heading to Coral Bay tomorrow!! We have visited the beaches from Hawksnest to Maho..LOVED them all but you are so right about crowds, I found Hawksnest to be the more quiet one, unfortunately we are down here during spring break so pretty crowded in Cruz Bay..did have the chance to see turtles, stingrays and many species of fish in Maho though!!!! Loved reading your blog about Coral Bay!! I hope you found your dream home! I would love to live here but we are just a bit older and have a lot of family to attend to yet in life!!!!

    1. Ahhh I wish I was there!!!! We’ve yet to make it to Hawksnest, hopefully next trip!!! ENJOY!!!!

  11. I can’t tell you how helpful these blog posts have been for booking St. John, thank you! Would you mind sharing all the recommended things you brought/purchased just to come here. I saw those awesome water shoes today on your stories.

  12. Where is a beach that is good for swimming but not too crowed? Did you bring umbrellas eat

    1. Hi! We brought a pop up tent – umbrellas aren’t allowed in the sand! Cinnamon, Trunk, Salt Pond, and Hansen are great for swimming with minimal crowds! Really the only crowds are at Honeymoon and Maho.
