DIY Ruffled Crib Skirt August 5, 2013
Don’t you just looooove when you attempt a DIY project and it comes out even better than you could’ve ever expected?! Yup, me too!
I had fallen in love with Restoration Hardware’s washed organic linen crib bedding a while back and knew it’s what I wanted for Landon’s crib. Well friends. It ain’t cheap. And I needed way more important things off my registry…like a car seat and stroller. So I decided to make one myself. Naturally.
I came across this AWESOME ruffled crib skirt tutorial from Lemon Tree Creations and had at it. I wanted neutral bedding, so I purchased my favorite fabric EVER…a painter’s drop cloth from Home Depot. I spent $20 on a 9x12ft drop cloth, which I realized after the fact is entirely too much….but now I have some extra for pillows and other fun things! And I always like to have some in my fabric stash.
I followed her tutorial very closely, and it really was a breeze. I used a piece of muslin for the crib skirt base, but really you could use anything seeing as it’s not seen. And BAM. It came out BEAUTIFULLY.
If you have any questions on the process, feel free to leave a comment below! It looks like it’s been a few years since Lemon Tree Creations last blogged, so I would be happy to help you if you are trying this out yourself!
And here’s a sneak peek of Landon’s nautical-inspired crib..
More to come! 🙂

Hello!
I, as a mom-to-be, I am enjoying all the info on your blog about your new baby! I was curious about one thing – for your crib mattress, did you go with foam or spring?
Thanks!

Hi Jen! We went with foam, this one in particular! http://www.amazon.com/Colgate-Classica-Crib-Mattress-Beige/dp/B002EL4J14/ref=br_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&colid=DIJRE1VB2IO6&coliid=I972I877YF633 Haven’t exactly had him use it yet, but it seems good?! 🙂 So glad you’re enjoying my posts!

The crib looks lovely and the skirt you’ve put on it makes it even better. But i’ve a question. How long can this crib be used? Will it be able to last until my boy is 4-5 years old? This is because i prefer to make a single investment rather than have to buy it again 1-2 years later.
Lauren McBride says
I’m not sure, I would have to read the instruction manual! But my thoughts are that by age 4-5, he will be sleeping in his own bed. 🙂

What size needle did you use on the canvas?
Lauren McBride says
Whatever needle came with my sewing machine! LOL
